Jason Benn, a young, talented performer and excellent songwriter. Not to mention, according to the ladies…“one of the
leading heartthrobs in the soca business today.”
Jason’s singing career started in Trinidad in 1993, as a Roytec (Royal Bank) student in The Kaiso Royale Calypso
Competition, in which he placed 2 nd with his first ever calypso composition entitled “A Song Of Hope”. That same
song qualified him as a finalist in the Caribbean Independence Calypso Competition, alongside veterans such as
Cro Cro, Denyse Plummer, Delamo, Defosto, Pink Panther and Bally.
In 1995, Jason was given the NCC Award for The Most Promising Calypsonian. He then went on to win the crown in
1996 of Santa Cruz Calypso Monarch and Arima Calypso Monarch in 1997.
By this time, the sky was the limit…Versatility and Excellence was the name of the game. Jason entered the Chutney
Soca Monarch Competition in 1998 and made it to the finals. He also wrote a song for Denyse Plummer, which
became her Road March and Soca Monarch Contender that year. She placed 8 th in the finals.
Jason has written songs for Candy Hoyte from Traffik, Natasha Wilson, Kizzie Ruiz and for Carnival 2006, Destra will
be performing a song that he wrote entitled “ I Dare You”.
The highpoint of Jason’s career came in 2002, with the very big hit “Boat Ride Anthem”. It is still considered a classic
and became very popular not only in Brooklyn, but all over the world. The song was written by Jason Benn, sung &
performed by Jason & Pelf.
Jason’s Album is entitled “From De Boatride Into De Fete” and features other big hits like… In Miami, No Labor Day,
All My Loving (feat. General Grant) and Ah Ready To!
Jason has recently released four (4) new songs…We Fed Up, Use Me Baby, My Woman (Feel Good Riddum) and
Plea for Unity (NY Riddum).
